In May, Facebook added a feature that allows you to declare yourself an organ donor. The social networking site is hoping more people will become donors so more than 100,000 Americans might receive the organs for which they’re waiting. In Georgia, nearly 3,000 people are on the waiting list.
To add yourself to the Facebook registry, go to your Timeline and click on “Life/Events,” then “Health & Wellness,” then “Organ Donor.” You’ll also need to officially register with Donate Life Georgia.
The more Georgians who sign up as organ donors, the more Piedmont Transplant Institute will be able to give those waiting for organs the second chances they deserve. More than 2,500 people have received liver, kidney and pancreas organ transplants at Piedmont over the past 25 years. And, in 2011, Piedmont launched its heart transplant program.
Piedmont is ranked among the top 15 percent of abdominal transplant programs in the United States and is considered one of the top programs in the Southeast. Our patients receive care from a multidisciplinary team that provides compassionate care combined with the most advanced level of treatment available.
As a premiere multi-organ transplant center in the region, we are committed to providing our patients optimal quality outcomes. Our mission is threefold: provide comprehensive transplant services to enhance patients’ quality of life, save lives by reducing the wait times for patients to receive organs and advance the science of organ transplantation through progressive research.
